KISS for websites below 14KB

And here we go again #

How many times have you heard that your website should be lightweight and fast? How many times have “geeks” asked to remove unnecessary JavaScript and CSS?

And here we go again, one more reason to keep your website simple and lightweight by referring to the Why your website should be under 14kB in size article.

When I read about it, it just flashed in my mind that some websites just feel blazing fast. For example, a blog you read this article on. It does not feel like it is loaded, it just appears.

OK, I thought to myself. Let’s check the actual size of the page. It’s 5-7KB. Hm… Let’s check some other blogs.

But when I went through other websites, the difference felt (especially on slower connections). OK then, how hard is it to keep everything below 14KB?

Actually, 14KB is a lot of text. If we keep it simple, the design would be much more readable and the size would be small. My blog is a theme I found on the internet and slightly modified it. But investing a little bit of time may make the size even smaller.

My bottom line would be “geeky” and very predictable. Keep it simple, keep it small, keep it fast. I want to see more simple sites and blogs. Use static site generators, not WordPress or other CMS.

If you don’t earn money from your website, why make it complex?
